Slow Play

I am sending this memo to all of our current players regarding an issue that became very apparent yesterday at Eagle Springs.  The issue is in regards to slow play.  Yesterday the first two teams finished in less than four hours.  The final group came in six hours later.  In other words the first team could have played nine more holes and still finished a head of the last group in. It was very obvious that many of our players were not happy with the slow play.

A group of ladies who are members of Eagle Springs complained about our slow play.  If we don’t address this issue we are jeopardizing our ability to play at private country clubs!

Solutions:

  1. Play “ready golf”  and be ready to play
  2. On the tee box have the shorter hitters play first.  Many times they can hit when the long hitters cannot.
  3. The golf rules say you have 3 minutes to look for a lost ball….not 15 or more.
  4. Putt when ready.  You should not need a long time to line up a put.
  5. The team leader (usually the A player) needs to speed up the team’s rate of play when necessary.
  6. When you reach the highest posted score for the hole consider picking up your ball.  The new golf rule is net double bogey.  That means the highest postable score for a hole is double bogey plus any strokes you get on the hole.
  7. Be aware of your slow play….if the group behind you is constantly waiting you need to pick up the pace of play
