Gentlemen: I joined SIR Branch 169 in early 2004. My sponsor was Don Morgan, and with his incredible energy and encouragement…”Hey, come and check it out. We have a lot of fun… golfing, a monthly luncheon, some great guys to meet and get to know.” I joined in the activities (golfing and a monthly luncheon) and I never thought about the Sons in Retirement organization or its inception. So, I checked out the SIR.org web page and found the following: “Sons in Retirement (SIR) is a fraternal organization of retired men. It has about 110 branches and 13,000 members in Northern and Central California. SIR was founded in San Mateo, California in 1958.” Its purpose for existing is “To provide for the welfare of retired men…who are pursuing a common goal, the enjoyment of later years with dignity and pride…through association with other retired men who face the particular problems that confront men upon retirement …activities are what draw us together.” We presently do not know when we will be given permission to fully reinstate all our activities. The following was received this month…”SIR branches may reopen golf activities provided that the BEC (Branch Executive Committee) first approves this resolution. Our SIR Branch 169 BEC officially provided that resolution at our February 9, 2021 executive meeting. Our Monthly Branch 169 newsletter should reflect the activities, involvement of membership and a review of the things we are doing together. Since our activities and membership participation have been limited or nonexistent for almost a year, it is challenging to provide interesting and meaningful information in a newsletter. It is especially difficult for our Little Sir (Dan Lindstrom) who would normally be sharing information regarding our monthly speakers. Dan has organized prospective speakers and like all of us is waiting for the time when we will be able to meet for a Tuesday luncheon. “Is there any information which indicates when we may be able to meet?” you ask. During a recent Zoom meeting, State SIR president Stu Williams indicated and is hopeful we will be able to meet for our monthly luncheons starting in June, 2021. So, officially we continue to wait. For those in our Branch 169 who are golfing, enjoy your time together and for all others, we look forward to our chance to meet and enjoy a luncheon together.
