OLD BUSINESS:

  • Jim Forden circulated the latest draft of our soon to be updated Membership Directory and asked for additional help in selecting the photos of Active Members from the large array of pictures taken at our luncheon meetings during the past 5 years.   When the current work has been completed the member photos will all be in color. Jim proposed that when the project has been completed, digital copies of the Directory will be sent out to all members who have an email address in the data base. Black and white hard copies of the Directory will be printed out for distribution to those members who do not have an email address.
  • At the March meeting of the Board, Jim Hiney informed that, as Area 29 Governor, he was discussing with the Big SIRs of Chapters 159, 169, 175 and 179, the prospect of consolidation to address the issue of diminished membership among the Fresno clubs. At todays meeting, Jim reported that he had met with the Big SIRs of all our local chapters and the surviving organizations were all open to the idea of absorbing the members of the closing ones.

 NEW BUSINESS:

  • Bernie explained that an overbooking of the restaurant facilities and staff had caused Pardinis to be unable to accommodate SIR 169 at the historically reserved second Tuesday of April Bernie met with Al Pardini, the owner, who had been embarrassed by the unfortunate mixup. As compensation for unfornated forced cancellation, Pardinis will waive corkage charges at our next meeting (i.e. the current one) and have provided the floral table decorations at todays luncheon.

  • Jim Hiney attended a SIR statewide meeting in San Jose. He reported that there had been a significant drop in SIR membership statewide, going from a total membership of around 30,000 at the peak of membership to a total of about half that amount at the present. The membership loss prompted a restructuring of the organization with a reduction of last year’s nine regions to a current total of five, together with a reduction in the number of Areas from 31 to 19. Additionally, a new program. designated Recruitment, Attendance, Membership and Participation (RAMP), has been initiated in an attempt to address the loss of membership. Our region, which has been more stable in membership, with now be designated Region 2, covering the entire San Joaquin Valley from Modesto to Bakersfield. The new Area Governor is Jerry Munroe.
  • Big SIR reported that Brian Kelly is resigning from the Board along with Ed Wildgans, who is doing so for health reasons
