The theme of this August, 2020 Little Sirs article will communicate that
withdrawals can occur in some really strange ways. Recent information says that
the 2020 College Football season will be cancelled or moved to the spring of
2021. Our local high school football appears headed in the same direction.
Consequently, we have Golf and baseball as a substitute. I know that many of
you who read this will think…”So what…!!! Does anyone really care?” “Yes, I
do.” I admit I am a traditionalist and it will be a difficult fall season without high
school football on Friday nights and college football all day on Saturdays. Just
think… No Michigan versus Ohio State. No Army versus Navy. No Appalachian
State versus North Dakota. It is going to be very challenging.
However, with the present caliber of Professional Golf, maybe the loss of football
will not be so tragic. For example: the 2020 PGA Championship final round this
last Sunday was an outstanding sports event and a very adequate substitute for
any other sport including baseball.
Lastly…those Sir Branch 169 members who are playing golf, realize how
important our friendships have become. Therefore, we are striving and
discussing ways we might be able to meet while we are waiting for the present
circumstances to change. If any of you have some ideas or suggestions, we
would appreciate your thoughts.
